the fab fig

My latest addiction, THE FAB FIG.

Did you know that the fig is actually a flower that is inverted into itself. The seeds are drupes, or the real fruit. Figs are the only fruit to fully ripen and semi-dry on the tree. And are naturally sweet.

Okay, enough of wikipedia on figs.

It was after buying groceries that I came across a kiosk selling dried fruits and preserved assam of sorts. And though I have seen this rather odd looking fruit curiously labeled as 'buah tin' in stalls selling dates and turkish delights and etc.

After numbing my tongue sampling the electrifying taste of sweet, sour and salty, the salesgirl game me a sliver of the dried fig to sample and the taste...

- woody
- textured, somewhat grainy due to the tiny seeds/pollen
- intensely sweet but somehow not sickly sweet like those dried mangoes
- acquired taste; mum loves it, husband doesn't
- addictive

And did you know that figs contain one of the highest source of fibre and a pretty high alkaline content that can substitute for the cravings one gets from nicotine. Hey, not bad for the FAB FIG eh.

Also, because of its high fibre content, it aids in weight loss as it promotes, you know lah, fibre = ...

Anyway, I finished chomping on 100grams these fab figs on the way to work and feeling kinda top of the world today... hmm wonder whether it is the sugar rush or the nicotine substitute that has kicked in.
